I once thought Digg was cool until it was overtaken by hardline leftists and pop culture obsessed douchebags so I found Reddit and the discussion (especially on programming related stuff) was interesting enough to bother reading.
Now Digg mostly just has the pop culture obsessed douchebags as they don't tend to play nicely with the hardline leftists who have unfortunately made it their fatwa to take over Reddit with nonstop posts about atheism and how great Obama is and how awful religion and the Republicans are. You might find out of 100 posts, one dedicated to anything programming or science related.
So now I find the most useful and interesting content on HackerNews which has been pretty good at keeping the site on topic and keeping the hardline leftists and pop culture obsessed douchebags from infecting that forum which is mostly about programming and entrepreneurial related stuff which is just fine by me.
One thing you may or may not be aware of is that Reddit is not doing so great these days (probably because hardline leftists are a small minority who drives everyone else away because they tend to be socially retarded iconoclasts). Conde Nast (their parent company) is still bleeding cash like crazy and in not so great shape, and in terms of the active user base, Reddit is only like 600,000 users which is very small when compared to Digg which is something like 20,000,000 (some of that obviously helped of course by the Facebook Connect partnership). Digg is still growing (in douchebags for the most part), while Reddit is stagnant or even possibly declining, in large part I feel to the leftist rampage that seem to have been ameliorated a little bit in the last several months, but which would be downright offensive to the senstivities of 90-95% of everybody else (who either went back to Digg or found better ways to occupy their time like updating their godforsaken Facebook pages). |
